BFF Decimals is a flexible intervention kit designed to help students develop a deep understanding of decimals through reasoning, place value, and connection.

Instead of relying on procedures alone, students explore decimals through Math Empowered's Core Four Instructional Routines:
Build meaning around place value and decimal relationships.
Help students notice patterns within the base-ten system.
Connect decimals to real-world contexts.
Reinforce strategies through collaboration and reasoning.
Students work across multiple representations, including place value charts, base-ten models, number lines, and area models, to make sense of decimals.
They learn to compare and order decimals, and to add, subtract, multiply, and divide by composing and decomposing units within the base-ten system.

In this session, participants explore the core values that guide Math Empowered classrooms, including fostering a growth mindset, honoring student thinking, and viewing mistakes and productive struggle as the necessary tension that leads to deep understanding.
Explore Math Empowered's four signature instructional practices: Math Talks, Partner Sorts, DARE-ing Application Problems, and Thinking Pathway Tasks and Proof Games. This course introduces the purpose and structure of each routine and demonstrates how they support conceptual understanding, reasoning, and student discourse.
Get your BFF Fluency intervention materials ready for immediate classroom use. In this short course, participants learn how to efficiently unpack, organize, and prepare the resources included in the kit so they can begin supporting student learning right away.
Join a Math Empowered team member for an interactive session exploring the mathematics behind the kit. Together we will examine the progression from conceptual understanding to reasoning strategies to efficient procedures, and explore the thinking pathways embedded throughout the materials.
Reconnect with a Math Empowered facilitator after implementing the BFF Kit in your classroom. Participants reflect on their experiences, share student successes and challenges, and deepen their understanding of how to support students along the thinking pathways toward mathematical fluency.
